Serious Sam 4 vinyl design

I partnered up once again with Croteam for the release of the vinyl soundtrack (by the talented Damjan Mravunac) for their fourth installment of the heavy hitting video game series Serious Sam. The game is widely known for the titular character of the same name, awesome music, a never ending horde of weird, scary and wonderful enemies and a myriad of weaponry to gun them all down. It's violent, it's bloody, it's over the top and it's outrageously funny.
I started the process by sketching out a few rough ideas. The main idea I had was to try and sum up the game in a simple way. For me, it is literally Sam vs untold thousands of enemies. I wanted to take the 'bomb' logo, ubiquitous with the series, and fill it in a clever way with the enemies all staring forward in a menacing 'we're here and we're gonna get you' kind of way. The trick was to use the bodies and limbs / poses in such a way so as to shape the face of the bomb. This was finished with a full sleeve design.

The main illustration was rendered by hand in graphite and acrylic on smooth Bristol Board before being scanned and edited in Photoshop. This involved minor colour correction and a subtle matte painting on top to preserve the authenticity of the drawing whilst enhancing it.
